Why You Should Get Bangs

You should get bangs.  Why?  Because you can.  Because hair grows.  Because you could look amazing.  Because you could look terrible.  Because you will learn something about yourself, your likes and dislikes.  Because this is not the worst decision you will ever make.  Because you just broke up.  Because you need a change.  Because this is something you can control.  Because Emma Stone, Taylor Swift, and the FLOTUS have them.  Because you had them in your youth.  Because you are young.  Because someone told you not too.  Because someone suggested you should.  Because they are trendy.  Because you are too lazy to deal with your eyebrows.  Because they are less permanent than a tattoo.  Because it’s cold out and they will help keep your face warm. 

But mostly because you can.   

Battle of the Jims

I have been watching a lot of television series lately.  One of my new favorites is HBO’s The Newsroom.  While watching I could not help but see a strange resemblance to one of my past tv loves, NBC’s The Office.   

I mean just look at the titles.  They are both based in a work environment with a crazy boss and coworkers that act more like a dysfunctional-yet-loveable family.  BUT, to me the most shocking link between the two are the relationship storylines between Maggie and Jim and Jim and Pam.

They are essentially the same romantic plot line and here is why.

Maggie Jordan, a young female lead in The Newsroom, is a kind-of redhead with a loyalty to her boss that no one really seems to understand. In the pilot Maggie reveals her true desire to be more than just a receptionist, I mean assistant, to become a production assistant.  She is Pam Beesly, just younger and slightly more neurotic.  In The Office’s first seasons Pam will explore her love of art and often discuss how she never dreamed of becoming a receptionist during her monologs.  Also, both Pam and Maggie get drunk in the first few episodes and that is where the sparks begin to fly between their respective Jims and the audience falls in love.

But of course, Maggie and Pam are currently seeing another guy. 

While, both The Office and The Newsroom set up Roy and Don as antagonists, they really aren’t the bad guys here.  They are both pretty decent characters/human beings. Yet we find ourselves routing for the Jims, the quirky guy with cute hair.  

The Jim comparison just slaps you in the face. The Newsroom has Jim Harper and his counterpart from an alternative universe is Jim Halpert from The Office.  COME ON! They are same character. He’s dependable, goofy, smart, the great friend, then starts a romance with another women, yet is still in love with Pam/Maggie.  

Even though I have seen this all before, I find myself sitting here like the romance driven female I am, wanting Jim and Maggie to make out in the rain (and since this is on HBO maybe even more!).  

I clearly have a “type” for shows and men.

Emerald City

As a redhead, I am pretty pumped that Emerald is Pantone’s color for 2013.  While I loved Mimosa and Tangerine, they were not the easiest colors to incorporate into my lifestyle.  I would end up looking too pink, or washed out.  I am sure any pale girl out there can commiserate with me. But Emerald really is colorblind.  Wear the right shade and this green hue is everyone's best friend. 

Taking a cue from nature, Emerald can be combined with a plethora of colors and patterns.   Emerald and zebra, emerald and metallic, emerald and floral!  Do it all and wear it with confidence.  The Green Machine correlates with every season so nicely.  For example, splurge on an awesome Emerald belt or earrings.  You can wear them now with chic winter whites or in the summer with leopard and pale pink.  I would even say you should wear them for a trip to Oz.

These are just a few of the reasons why Emerald is helping to make 2013 the best yet.  So here is to Emerald, and to channeling Christmas naturally all year round.

Not Another Fashion Blog New Years Resolution

Every horoscope I have read states 2013 is my year.  I have to admit I do tend to favor odd numbered years. However, as silly as it may sound I would like to make 2013…well awesome.  The number ‘13’ has such a negative connotation and the world today seems to be such a negative place, therefore 2013 has to be positive. Thanks to math!

Other reasons this year is going to be outstanding (in order of importance to me):

1. Fashion is finally being friendly to redheads and making Emerald Green the color of the year.

2. There are no elections, which means less annoying commercials ruining The Today Show for me.

3. A movement towards “affordable luxury” brands

4. I will be turning 25 and will have a fabulous quarter life crisis

and finally..

5. Apparently the economy will being to blossom

So, I will raise my hand and solemnly swear to you and myself: “In 2013 I resolve to blog every day, resume my healthy lifestyle, explore new interests and fashion trends, smile more, follow my dreams, and finally change the world.”  Now, these may all seem trite but I am sincere while I write this.
